Thread: Something I've learned buying homemade clothes off eBay

I will never again purchase a dress for Felicity if there's not a picture of an American Girl doll modeling it.

I have had the worst luck lately with buying a dress that looks beautiful in picture, but when I receive it and put it on Felicity, it's a big dumpy mess. There are enough really skilled seamstresses out there for me to pass on these disappointments.

I have three outfits now that I want to resell on eBay but of course I don't want to make anyone feel bad by relisting their dress, particularly if they notice. I would feel horrible.

Anyway, just had to vent. Happy Monday!

Does it actually didn't fit or you did not like it once it was on the doll. Because if it actually fits and is unattractive, I would donate it the next time we collect stuff for another poor child.

    Lieu2,
The dresses are definitely for an AG doll, the quality is just so poor. Beautiful material and the seams are great, it's just poor workmanship. A bit too big in the bodice, everything is off kilter.
I will definitely set those outfits aside for donation. A child wouldn't care as much as I do. I would feel bad trying to sell them on eBay because I would feel obligated to say why I didn't like them and then of course they probably wouldn't sell.
It's still a huge disappointment to me though as I spent good money for these sad sacks.

    Hi AGNan,

I have a question about the two piece asian outfit(skirt and top, pink w/ purple trim) your Jin-Mei wore in your Valentine album. What shoes did she have on? Did you have a picture of them? My memory fails me. Thanks in advance.

I totally agree AGNan and horsemom; I'm so weary to buy anything homemade on ebay because it's always a surprise! Some people don't realize that the print on the fabric is too big or they just throw a dress together an wallah! It's on ebay for ten bucks!

I've found the only dresses that really match the standards I have are those from the Dollies Dressmaker.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Most definately! She's wonderful. And she is a professional costumer of antique dolls so you know you are getting something good!

I also recommend KMKdollshop on ebay. I've bought a couple of outfits from her and they are always well made, with attention to detail and they FIT AG!

I got a great like Felicity Cardinal Cloak homemade for a very good deal. But that is the only homemade outfit I ever bought on ebay. Most my outfits were bought from AG or hand made by my mother (LOVE YOU MOMMY!!!) She made a great Japanese Kimono for Chantal (AGOT#4)

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Dionne: When she wore that outfit I had her wearing cute little inexpensive "pink" jellies. Here is the link to the exact buyer I purchased from. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...554814322&rd=1

If you haven't seen the outfit up close, there are actually two pinks in it. The overall background pink of the outfit and then a bolder pink in some of the flowers. The jellies are a solid clear pink with little tiny flecks of sparklies which are very subtle.

I would take a quick picture but my digital camera's last battery died while I was taking my last batch of pictures. I have six batteries on their way but it'll be next week before I can take any more pics.

Some of the lack of fit has to do with how much stuffing the doll has. If I fit the cloths I make to one doll I have to be carefull to check my other dolls becaues their is a slight variation in body size over the years. I have three dolls and my Sam (early one) is slightly more rotund than my AGOT.

I'm so sorry you have had such a bad experience. I have purchased homemade outfits off of ebay twice. One order was from the lady who makes the Hogwart's school uniforms and another lady who made a very nice polka-dot dress. Unfortunatley, I can't find their ebay names as they are on my other computer.
